About This Call
INTERSTATE is a national juried exhibition hosted by the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. The exhibition is open to submissions in all media and subject matter; artwork does not need to follow a particular theme. The subtitle, "where I-90 meets I-82," locates the exhibition in Ellensburg and suggests the flow and exchange of artwork across geographic distances and boundaries. Proceeds from this national exhibition will support student scholarships in the CWU Department of Art.
Eligibility is open to artists over the age of 18 working in all 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, and video formats. Works created or completed as an undergraduate student are not eligible. Only original works where the artist is the sole copyright holder will be accepted. The entry fee is $35 for up to three submissions. A maximum of five images or video files can be submitted, along with a brief artist bio. All work must be ready to display with clear installation instructions and cannot exceed 4 feet in any direction or weigh more than 70 pounds.
The juror is Emily Zimmerman, Director of the Jacob Lawrence Gallery at the University of Washington. Awards include First Place ($700), Second Place ($500), Third Place ($300), and three Sarah Spurgeon Gallery Honorable Mentions. Results will be sent by email on or before September 22, 2017. The exhibition runs November 2 through December 3, 2017. An opening reception and juror's talk will take place on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 5:00 p.m., preceded by the juror's talk at 4:00 p.m. Accepted work must arrive by October 20, 2017. Shipping costs and insurance are the responsibility of the artist. Insurance coverage will be provided while works are on the premises of the gallery.
