About This Call
This interdisciplinary exhibition will feature a blend of natural and cultural history objects, images and archival material combined with statewide contemporary art, both narrative and conceptual. Artists of all backgrounds and media are encouraged to apply.
The exhibition will focus on Kenai as a place wherein people and animals intersect and cycle through, addressing intersections of cultures, moments of important intersection in Kenai's history, extraordinary intersections of animal migrations, the results of human and animal intersections, and the ways in which we travel. The exhibit will open with a gala event on April 22, 2011 and close on September 30th, 2011. The exhibition will be juried by Jamie Bollenbach, MFA, a painter and sculptor based in Seattle, along with additional jurors from Alaska including Celia Anderson and William Heath.
Eligibility is limited to residents of the State of Alaska. Jurors are interested in recent work in a variety of mediums including photography, paintings, printmaking, ceramics, glass, mixed media work, fiber art, and three-dimensional works. Work may not have been previously shown at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. Only original artwork submitted by the artist is eligible. Artwork should be no larger than 40 inches in any direction; artists wishing to submit larger or installation work should contact Laura Forbes at the KVCC. Artists may submit no more than three pieces for consideration. The entry fee is $25.00, which supports up to three pieces. Submissions should include a brief statement about the work and biography.
