Interplay: SDA's Member + Student Exhibitions

Interplay is SDA's 2024 Member + Student Exhibitions held in partnership with The Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens, OH. The exhibition will be on view from June 28–September 5, 2024. The juror is Annet Couwenberg.

The exhibition celebrates fiber artists working in all media. Interplay will present works that explore parallels, synergies, or tensions between two or more ideas. Artworks may examine connections between seemingly unrelated concepts, map relationships between maker and materials, or reflect interactions between maker and tools. Works may employ traditional, interdisciplinary, or collaborative methodologies.

Two separate exhibition categories are offered: Members Exhibition (entry fee $45 for SDA members) and Student Exhibition (entry fee $25 for students). Each artist may submit up to two pieces in any media (2D, 3D, video, or audio). Up to four images total may be submitted per entrant. The juror requests one overall and at least one detail image of each full original artwork. An artist statement (up to 1,000 characters) and description of each artwork are required. For 2D and 3D work, images must be JPEG format, minimum 1200 pixels on the shortest side, 72 ppi/dpi resolution, and 5MB maximum file size. Video submissions must not exceed 100 MB; audio submissions must not exceed 10 MB.

Awards are offered in both categories: First Place $400, Second Place $200, Third Place $100, and SDA Award of Excellence (one-year free digital SDA membership). The Dairy Barn Arts Center provides full coverage of work while in the gallery's care. Artists are responsible for shipping costs both to and from the Arts Center. All artwork must arrive between June 10 and 24, 2024. A 35% gallery commission will be charged for sold work. Entries are accepted online through CaFE with an extended deadline of April 7, 2024 (11:59 pm MT). Notification of acceptance is May 13, 2024.
