About This Call

The Alex Ferrone Gallery invites entries for the International Juried Photographic Solarplate Exhibition, featuring original Solarplate etchings created from photographically based images (photographs, photo collages, etc.). This competition is open to international artists with works created within the last three years. The exhibition runs October 1 – November 13, 2016, with partial sales proceeds benefiting the Inspiration Plus Foundation, a charitable educational organization dedicated to improving lives through exposure to art, science, and music.

Eligibility and Requirements: Artists 18 years and older are eligible. Entries must be original Solarplate etchings that are photographically based, with open subject matter/theme. Works must not have been previously shown at the Alex Ferrone Gallery. The submission fee is $45 for up to three works (non-refundable). Framed works may not exceed 30" Height x 22" Width including frame and must be professionally presented with black frames (maximum profile width 1"). Plexiglass is required for works larger than 11"x14" framed. All works must be for sale; the Gallery retains 45% commission, the artist receives 50%, and Inspiration Plus Foundation receives 5%.

Important Dates and Awards: Digital submission deadline is July 8, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Accepted artists will be notified July 29. Framed works are due at the Gallery September 6-10, 2016. Award winners will be notified September 14. The Opening Reception and Awards Presentation is Saturday, October 1 from 6-8 p.m. Works may be picked up or returned November 14-18, 2016. Juror is Dan Welden, master printmaker and developer of the Solarplate technique. Awards include a two-day private residency with Dan Welden in his Sag Harbor studio (overnight lodging provided; travel and other expenses are the recipient's responsibility), participation in the six-week exhibition "Solarplate 2016" at the Gallery, and gift certificates to art suppliers ($200 First Place, $150 Second Place, $50 Honorable Mention).
