About This Call

Art in the Park, Worcester is a juried public art exhibition dedicated to making public art accessible to all. Since 2008, a volunteer committee has presented this exhibition in Elm Park, a National Registry public park with Olmsted-designed and inspired elements. The exhibit received the Gold Star Award in 2009 from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Gateway Cities' Innovation award in 2017. Art in the Park, Worcester is presented in partnership with the Arts and Business Council of Boston and the City of Worcester's Parks Department, with support from Becker College.

Artists may submit up to three existing or proposed site-specific sculptures. Proposals should include a drawing with key and scale information, description of the work, and materials. Preference will be given to work produced by the artist or collaboration within the past three years. All work must be the property of the artist and suitable for outdoor installation. Sculptures should be able to be well anchored to a base platform, into the earth, or securely suspended from trees. Sharp, pointed pieces below 4 feet should be avoided to prevent injury to viewers. The entry fee is $30.00, and artists may submit up to 3 applications. Work samples should include a minimum of 3 images and a maximum of 20 total samples (3-12 images, 0-6 audio files, 0-6 video files).

Exhibitors will receive an $800.00 stipend to show at Elm Park or Anna Maria College (one stipend per artist and site regardless of number of pieces accepted). Additional opportunities may be available at educational, medical, and other institutions in the Worcester area, with honorariums ranging from $400.00 to $700.00. Artists are encouraged to offer their work for sale; if a sale occurs during the exhibition or related shows, 30% of the sale price is payable to Art in the Park, Worcester. Exhibiting artists are expected to attend the opening ceremony on June 8 and are encouraged to participate in other related events. Installation dates are June 4 & 6, 2019, with sculpture removal on September 10 & 12, 2019 (lift equipment available at specific times). Anna Maria College removal is scheduled for May 2020.
