About This Call
Interlocken East Park is located in the Interlocken Business Park area of Broomfield, situated between the Boulder Turnpike and Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport. The park features a large pavilion, playing field, pond, and Frisbee golf course, connected to other areas by walking paths. The proposed art site measures 12 x 15 feet and sits on a grassy hill just off the walking path and street, offering high visibility to pedestrians, cyclists, and cars. From this vantage point, viewers look down upon East Park's trees, lawns, and pond reflections, with views of the Rocky Mountains and other parts of Broomfield beyond.
East Park will be the site of the first public art piece placed in this southwest portion of the city and county. The Public Art Commission seeks a vertically oriented, abstract, landmark work—possibly kinetic—to illustrate how contrasting elements such as old and new, nature and technology, and residents and businesses can work together. The PAC has a budget of $50,000 for artwork via commission or direct purchase. This budget covers all expenses including design, labor, materials, contracted services, installation of base or foundation, permits, taxes, insurance, landscaping modifications, and transportation. Any expenses exceeding the contracted amount are the artist's responsibility. Proof of insurance is required per City and County of Broomfield standards. Artists' travel expenses will not be reimbursed.
The PAC will review RFP submissions and artist qualifications to select semi-finalists based on criteria consistent with PAC Guidelines, past works, and experience. Semi-finalists will receive an honorarium for maquettes submitted for public comment. The finalist will provide refined concepts and work plans as requested. The maquette becomes the property of the City and County of Broomfield. This project is open to artists 18 years or older. Submissions must include 5 artwork images and 1 proposal image, a letter of interest describing vision and relevant experience, anticipated maintenance requirements, list of materials, two references for artwork completed within the last five years, a work plan including project costs and timeline for delivery prior to March 31, 2008, and a current resume.
