About This Call
Salt Lake County is seeking an artist or artist team to create one or more unique interior artworks for the new Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Arts Center in Daybreak, South Jordan, Utah. The Arts Center, supported by a $25 million donation from the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation, will include an 800-seat theater, a visual art gallery, and classroom spaces. Groundbreaking is scheduled for January 2026 with an anticipated opening in early 2028.
The artwork must complement the building's architectural design, adhere to all safety standards, and be built for long-term durability with minimal maintenance. The design should be thoughtfully scaled to fit the site and reflect the highest artistic standards. Projects are encouraged to highlight movement and fluidity, visually or thematically connect with the building's drape motif, serve as a catalyst for creative energy and community engagement, and create meaningful connections to the surrounding landscape and local culture.
This interior project (RFQ #ART120987) is open to artists legally authorized to work in the United States. The selection process occurs in two phases. Phase One requires submission of a letter of interest, up to 10 images of relevant past work, and a detailed biography by July 11, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Up to five semi-finalists will be selected to advance to Phase Two, which includes a mandatory virtual meeting on August 5, 2025 at 4:00 PM MT and submission of a full site-specific proposal by September 17, 2025 at 1:00 PM. The project budget is $220,000. Contact: [email protected]. The complete Request for Qualifications is available at https://www.saltlakecountyarts.org/art-in-public-places.
