About This Call

The City of Coral Springs Public Art Program is requesting artist proposals for a commissioned interactive sculpture for the ArtWalk on NW 31st Court. The sculpture must be interactive, intergenerational family-oriented, iconic, and provide photo opportunities. The artwork should encourage observers to walk in, on, and around it or become part of the artwork itself. Kinetic sculptures are not welcome. The sculpture must have a vertical minimum height of ten feet and a dramatic aspect. The installation pad is 10 feet in diameter, plumbed for electric, raised and sloped on the sides 6 inches, and ADA accessible. The selected artist is responsible for the engineering design of the pad.

The artwork must be durable and require minimal ongoing maintenance, designed for South Florida's subtropical climate with intense sun, humidity, and seasonal heavy rains. Materials should resist rust, fading, and high-speed winds. The artwork must be self-supporting on an open landscape, large in scale, and meet the Florida Building Code and Hurricane Resistant Requirements.

The selection process occurs in two rounds. The jury will shortlist three artists, each receiving an honorarium of $1,000. Shortlisted artists must submit detailed designs, 3D models with scaled plans and CAD drawings, site plans, and itemized budgets. The selected artist receives $97,000 for the complete project, including all taxes, fees, labor, transportation, and installation costs. The artist will also make recommendations regarding permanent site design and present a public lecture on public art. The Public Art Committee will supply the pad and exterior lighting. Artists must submit a general approach statement, proposed design sketch, resume, and 3-5 examples of past work with similar budgets. Eligibility is open to professional visual artists with experience implementing work in the public realm. Applications are submitted through CaFé. Contact: Laura Atria, (954) 344-1162 or (954) 344-1114, [email protected].
