Integrated Public Art for Aurora's South East Recreation Center

The City of Aurora, Colorado is seeking an individual artist or artist team to create architecturally integrated artworks for a new recreation facility. The project includes both interior and exterior opportunities such as entryway treatments, floors, walls, suspended artwork, kinetic art, interactive art, wayfinding elements, and architectural elements. Artwork should celebrate or forge connections to the natural world and the surrounding environment. The ideal artist or team will bring a holistic vision to the site and the ability to work cohesively with design team members.

The South East Recreation Center will be located in Reservoir Community Park, an existing 600+ acre open space west of the Aurora Reservoir. The facility will sit on the highest elevation in the area, offering nearly 360 degrees of views. The recreation center will encompass approximately 50,000-55,000 square feet and occupy about seven acres with parking. The surrounding area includes residential neighborhoods, Aurora Reservoir, a city water facility, a residential youth facility, and commercial uses. Pedestrian and bicycle connections will join the site with nearby regional trails, parks, neighborhoods, and schools.

Submission materials must include 10-12 images of relevant past work, up to 2 videos, a resume (not to exceed two pages), an artist's statement, a letter of interest describing skills and experience with design teams and integrated art, and names and contact information for three professional references. The project budget is $450,000. Selected finalists will receive an honorarium to visit the site on July 18 and attend a public input meeting. Presentations will take place July 19 between 10:30 am and 1 pm. The selected artist is desired to participate in a community input meeting on August 15 and possibly one in September 2019.
