About This Call
The Union Colony Civic Center (UCCC), Northern Colorado's premier performing arts venue owned and operated by the City of Greeley, is seeking artist proposals for vinyl wrap mural designs for restroom metal dividers. In 2019, the first floor restroom was successfully wrapped with artistic vinyl murals. The city is now planning to wrap the remaining three restrooms with designs selected through community guidance.
The total budget for artwork design is $13,862 (30% of the anticipated installation budget). One or more artists will be commissioned to create designs for the new wraps. If multiple artists are selected, the budget will be split according to which restroom(s) they design and in direct ratio to square footage. Designs may be representational or abstract and must respond to one or more of these themes: Bodies in Motion, Instruments/Inside & Out/Technical Drawings, Music/Sheet Music, or Theatre/Inside & Out/Technical Design. Designs must be picture-based (not word-based), visually active, and cover all sides of metal stalls. Artwork cannot include logos, copyrighted or trademarked images, or function as signage or advertisement. Final artwork must not interfere with functioning parts such as vents, hinges, locks, or handles. The average life expectancy of vinyl art is 5-10 years.
Artists may submit proposals for one or more restrooms. All proposed designs must be original or include proof of permission for borrowed images. Submissions must include up to 6 images total: 1 color image for each proposed restroom, up to 3 proposed designs, and 3 or more images of past work. An optional group tour of the restrooms can be scheduled for February 13, 3-4pm. Selected artist(s) will work with a design committee including Greeley Art Commission members, Culture staff, and community members and will be notified by March 25, 2020. Final designs must be submitted to the installation contractor by April 15, 2020. Once designs are accepted and payment is made, the City retains all rights to the final designs.
