About This Call
The City of Denver's Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create original public artwork for Inspiration Point Park in Denver, CO. The budget for this commission is approximately $23,000.00 USD, which is inclusive of all costs including design fees, consultation, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and contingency. Eligibility is open to artists or artist teams residing in the state of Colorado.
The selection panel has identified a site at a gathering space between the parking lot and the western outlook, at the end of a crusher-fine pathway with two concrete benches. The panel seeks artwork that is interactive and enjoyable by multiple generations, exploring the idea of "inspiration" by creating works that spark wonder, delight and joy. Artwork should enhance the natural beauty of the park and invite visitors to take their time. The panel is particularly interested in inviting artists new to public artwork, especially muralists hoping to shift toward sculptural work. Artworks could be created using diverse media including sculpture, paint, mosaic applications, and sound elements. Materials and colors should be harmonious with the park's native prairie species. Any lighting or electrical needs should be solar- or wind-generated. All artwork must be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials suitable for permanent outdoor display.
Applicants must submit six digital images of past work, a résumé, and a statement of interest (no longer than 2,000 characters) via www.callforentry.org. The selection panel will choose three to five finalists who will create site-specific proposals and be interviewed in person or virtually. Selected finalists will be paid an honorarium and will have the opportunity for a site visit with the selection panel. The selected artist or artist team will work with Denver Public Art program staff, Denver Parks and Recreation, and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure when finalizing designs for installation. Timeline: Entry deadline is Monday, March 13th, 2023, 11:59 p.m. MST; Finalist selection in April 2023; Selected artist notification in May 2023.
