About This Call

The City of Aurora Public Art Program and the developers of the Inspiration Colorado Residential Community announce a public call for entry for artist qualifications for a signature outdoor art series to be installed at twelve strategic, visible locations throughout the neighborhood. This project is part of the City of Aurora's Art in Public Places Program and represents a partnership between the City of Aurora's Cultural Services Department and the private developer.

Inspiration Colorado is located in southeast Aurora, approximately 1.5 miles south of the E-470/Gartrell Road interchange. The community features both age-qualified homes for buyers 55+ and traditional residential homes. Twelve locations have been identified for artwork, with two pieces (Locations 1 and 2) to be installed in 2015. Location 1 is at the main community entry and should convey grandeur. Location 2 is at the entry to model homes and the age-qualified Recreation Center. Locations 3-12 mark neighborhood entries and gateways throughout the community. The artwork should form a family of iconic elements with a recurring theme.

The community features modern prairie-style architecture with natural Colorado high-prairie landscape, native grasses, and meandering trails. Common materials include buff sandstone, rusted cortene steel, stucco, and dark brown powder-coated steel. Vertical elements are strongly desired, and pieces with multiple elements per location are recommended. Artwork themes may include tributes to the native prairie, mountain vistas, weather patterns, kinetic or interactive elements, or historical/ecological derivation. Artwork must be safe to touch, durable, low-maintenance, graffiti-resistant, and designed to be securely fastened. The total budget is $180,000 distributed among 12 sites. Submit 4-12 images by December 11, 2014 at midnight MST. Contact Eva Mather at [email protected] with questions.
