Innovations in Printmaking and Mixed Media

D'art Gallery invites submissions for Innovations in Printmaking and Mixed Media, celebrating the Month of Printmaking. This call seeks innovative approaches to printmaking practice, including works that combine printmaking with mixed media. Work must include printmaking as a primary component. Artists are encouraged to explore multi-dimensional approaches through layering, complexity, and creative exploration.

Cash awards include Best of Show ($300) and three Honorable Mentions ($100 each). The juror is Melanie Yazzie, Professor of Printmaking at University of Colorado Boulder. Yazzie is a printmaker, painter, and sculptor whose work draws upon her Dine (Navajo) cultural heritage and addresses social, cultural, and political phenomena affecting Native peoples. Her work has been exhibited widely in the United States and abroad, including at the Museum of Art at Rhode Island School of Design, the Museum of Contemporary Native Art in Santa Fe, and Rhodes University in South Africa.

Accepted work will be exhibited at D'art Gallery in Denver from April 7 through May 1, 2022. Entry fee is $35 for up to three pieces. Submissions must include 1-3 images in JPEG format, minimum 1920 pixels on the longest side, 72 ppi/dpi resolution, maximum 5 MB file size. Artwork must be original, completed, and ready to hang or display. Maximum artwork size is 5 feet wide by 10 feet tall (including frame), with maximum weight of 50 pounds. All two-dimensional works on paper must be framed with professional-quality frames, mats, and wiring. No Giclee prints, audio-video, or performance artworks accepted. Frames must have fully painted edges and no sawtooth hangers. Accepted artists are responsible for shipping and return shipping costs and insurance. Shipped work must arrive by April 2, 2022, using reusable containers only with no packing peanuts. Hand delivery is available April 2-3 during gallery hours or by special arrangement. All work must be received by April 3 at 4:00 p.m. An artist reception with awards presentation is scheduled for April 8 at 6 p.m. Artwork sold incurs a 25% commission. Pick-up is May 1 between 3:00-5:00 p.m., or shipped work will be mailed May 2. Artwork left unclaimed more than 30 days after the exhibition closes will be considered abandoned property of D'art Gallery.
