About This Call

Ink & Clay 46 is a juried competition of printmaking, ink drawing, ceramic ware, clay sculpture, mixed media and installation. Established in 1971, the competition is open to artists working throughout the United States. The exhibition will be held at Kellogg University Art Gallery, Cal Poly Pomona, from August 26 to November 14, 2024, and will be documented through an online printable catalog.

The 2024 theme is "Art & Science Collide," exploring the intersection of art with biotechnology, cosmology, sustainable agriculture, the climate crisis, environmental justice, and other areas where art and science meet. Artwork must utilize ink and/or clay as primary or featured media and must have been completed within the last 5 years (2020-2024). All traditional media, mixed media, collage, assemblage, book-making, installation, video and avant-garde artforms are acceptable as long as ink and/or clay are featured. Artwork must be original and created by the artist's hand; giclée prints, reproductions, and solely digitally-based prints are not acceptable. There are no size restrictions. Entry fee is $46 for up to 3 entries, paid by credit card through the CaFÉ platform. Artwork will be considered for sale unless marked NFS (not for sale); the gallery retains a 25% commission on all sales.

The Kellogg University Art Gallery is offering $13,000 in cash awards, including the James H. Jones Memorial Purchase Award, University President's Purchase Award, Jurors' Choice and Director's Choice Purchase Awards, plus Monetary Awards and Honorable Mentions totaling up to $3,000. Jurors include Kim Abeles (fine art/curatorial), Barbara A. Thomason (ink specialist), and a third juror specializing in ceramics. Submissions are made online through the Western States Arts Federation's (WESTAF) Call for Entry (CaFE) platform at www.callforentry.org.
