About This Call
The City of Albuquerque Arts Board seeks medium and large scale two-dimensional artworks by artists residing in the greater Albuquerque area (including Rio Rancho, Corrales, Los Lunas, and the East Mountains) for acquisition into the City of Albuquerque Public Art Collection. The committee is interested in compelling original works in painting, printmaking, drawing, collage, photography, weaving, mixed media, and assemblage. Giclee reproductions will not be accepted. Digital photography must be printed on archival paper using archival inks.
Works must be recently completed (within the last 3 years) and range from 24" to 72" on a side. All two-dimensional works must be appropriately framed with museum quality materials. For photography, drawing, pastels, assemblage, mixed-media, and print work: 100% cotton rag mat (minimum 2 inches all around), acid-free museum quality backing and mounting, simple profile frame (1.5" or larger depth), and plexiglass or glass protective covering. Paintings on canvas must be glazed with security hangers preferred. Weaving or fiber works must be under plexiglass/glass with maple or oak molding (1.5" or larger). Relief components must not extend more than 3 inches from the surface. Frames must be in new condition and ready for immediate display.
Artworks must be appropriate for public display at City facilities and will be reviewed against Public Art Guidelines. Works depicting violence, inappropriate nudity, denigration of individuals or cultures, or desecration of cultural symbols will be reviewed for appropriateness. Religious subject matter or symbols may be included if not in a location where it can be revered and solely for exhibiting cultural or historical traditions. $100,000 is available to purchase artworks, with the Arts Board hoping to purchase works priced within an average range of $500 to $5,000. Eligible artists must be legal residents of New Mexico. City employees and their families may submit works for purchase under $1,000. Artists must submit a statement or description (not to exceed 500 words), a current resume (not to exceed 500 words), and up to two artwork submissions. Works within a series (diptych or triptychs) count as one submission.
