About This Call
The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo's Art in Public Places Program has partnered with the City of Toledo's Parks Department to commission a new work of public art integrated into Inez Nash Park. Renovations to the park will include a quarter mile walkway, shelter, main event plaza, and a system of pathways and plazas. The public art project will be integrated into a shoot-around court with five hoops designed for freeform play, measuring approximately 50'-0" x 29'-9" (1170 square feet).
A Design Review Board will select three artists or teams to propose complete designs for the surface of the court and each of the five backboards. Finalists will be paid a $2,000 stipend to participate in the concept proposal process, which includes touring Inez Nash Park and meeting with the Design Review Board and community members. Up to $1,000 will be reimbursable for expenses related to site visits, including travel, lodging, and food. The overall budget for commissioning, designing, and creating the artwork is $60,500. Artists should have experience integrating public art into park and court environments and incorporating community input and engagement into the creative process.
Applicants must submit a one-page letter of interest, current resume (one for each team member if submitting as a team), five digital images of recent professional work with an annotated image list including title, date, medium, size, location, and commission budget if applicable, and a list of at least three professional references with complete contact information. The project is open to all artists in the United States, age 18 and over, including artist teams from multiple disciplines. Entry deadline: 9/24/24 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
