About This Call

Keystone Group and the Indianapolis Art Center are requesting qualifications from artists and artist teams to create designs that will be mechanically painted or printed onto two façades made of aluminum panels for a new mixed-use development in Broad Ripple Village, a cultural district in north-central Indianapolis. The north-facing façade is approximately 40' wide and 17' tall; the east-facing façade is approximately 19' wide by 17' tall. The panels are perforated to allow for air flow. The imagery will be seen by tens of thousands of people monthly and will serve as a visual gateway into Broad Ripple. Keystone will handle fabrication, installation, and maintenance. The selected artist will transfer design rights to Keystone for repainting as needed. The artwork may remain on display for at least two years before being changed. The artist will be recognized with appropriate signage within or near the structure.

Eligibility: Applicants must be 18 years or older and US residents. Applications must include a brief project description (not exceeding 300 words), up to 10 images of previous projects and/or renderings of the proposed idea, an image description list, and a resume/CV (not exceeding 3 pages). After reviewing initial responses, the selection panel will invite 3-5 artists to submit formal proposals, each receiving a $300 stipend upon submission. The panel will select two finalists and determine the winner. The winner receives $3,500, and the runner-up receives $500. All designs except the winning design remain the intellectual property of the artists.

Timeline: RFQ opens January 21, 2013. Entry deadline is February 25, 2013. RFP artists are notified March 18, 2013 to submit proposals (stipend issued upon receipt). Formal proposal deadline is April 15, 2013. Finalist and runner-up are notified May 10, 2013. Painted panels are installed Spring/Summer 2013. Successful candidates should demonstrate strong aesthetics, a track record of completed projects of similar scope, ability to work within a budget, and ability to work within a deadline.
