Indiana University East 40th Annual Whitewater Valley Art Competition

The Whitewater Valley Art Competition, originating in 1978, invites artists to submit original work for juried selection. Digital images of entered works will be projected in an auditorium on the IU East campus and juried by a three-judge panel. The public is invited to be present during judging intervals to interact with the panel regarding acceptance or declination of works. Approximately 50-55 works will be selected for exhibition.

Eligibility: Artists must be 18 years or older and reside in Indiana or adjacent states of Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, or Michigan. All work must be original and cannot have been exhibited in previous Whitewater Valley Art Competitions. Both 2-D and 3-D artwork are considered, including paintings, drawings, printmaking, digital artworks, photographs, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, textiles, and mixed media. Entry fee is $30 for up to 3 entries. Submit 1-9 digital images via www.callforentry.org. Entry deadline: Friday, September 14th at 11:59 p.m. MDT.

Requirements: 2-D works must be ready to hang with wire or appropriate hardware; 3-D works must be stable. Weight limit is 30 lbs.; size must not exceed 48" in any direction. Works on paper must be protected under Plexiglas or similar. No traditional glass allowed on 2-D works larger than 12" in any direction. Two detail images may be submitted with each entry; limit three images per entry. If artwork is available for purchase, include the price; NFS pieces must include an insurance amount. All works must be shipped in reusable containers with return-shipping label via UPS or FEDEX (no USPS). Artists hand-delivering works must do so by 5 p.m., October 5, 2018. The gallery reserves the right to not display works if not presented in specified format or if physical work vastly differs from submitted image.

Awards: $5,000 total award money. Judging: September 21, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at IU East Campus, Whitewater Hall, Vivian Auditorium. Artists reception and awards presentation: October 12, 6-8 p.m., Tom Thomas Gallery @ IU East. Exhibition: October 12 – December 7 in Tom Thomas Gallery and Meijer Artway.
