Indiana University East 39th Annual Whitewater Valley Art Competition

Indiana University East hosts the 39th Annual Whitewater Valley Art Competition, originating in 1978. The competition features open judging with public participation. Digital images of entered works will be projected in an auditorium on the IU East campus and juried by a three-judge panel. The public will have scheduled intervals to interact with the panel regarding the rationale for selection or rejection of works. On September 29, 50-55 works will be selected for exhibition.

Eligibility: Artists must be 18 years or older and reside in Indiana or adjacent states of Ohio, Kentucky, or Michigan. All work must be original by the submitting artist. Limit three entries per artist. Entry fees: 1 entry @ $20, 2 entries @ $25, 3 entries @ $30. Limit three images per entry. Categories include drawing, painting, mixed media, photography, and computer graphics, though works are not judged by category. All submissions must be electronic via www.callforentry.org. Artists needing assistance photographing work may bring it to the Tom Thomas Gallery, Whitewater Hall, September 20-22, 10am-4pm.

Conditions: 2D works must include wire or hanging device; 3D works must be stable. No wet entries or AC electric. Weight limit is 30 lbs; size must not exceed 48" in any direction. Works on paper must be protected under Plexiglas or similar. No traditional glass allowed on 2D works larger than 12" in any direction. If artwork is available for purchase, include the price in submission. NFS pieces must include an insurance amount. All works must be shipped in reusable containers with return-shipping label via UPS or FEDEX. Artists are responsible for shipping costs. Hand-delivered works must arrive by 5pm, October 13. Awards: $5,000 total award money. Exhibition runs October 20 - December 8 in Tom Thomas Gallery and Meijer Artway. Artwork collection by artist: December 11-15, 10am-5pm.
