About This Call
Indiana will celebrate its 200th anniversary of statehood in 2016. The Indiana Bicentennial Commission, assisted by the Indiana Arts Commission, seeks an artist to create the obverse design (heads) for the Indiana Bicentennial commemorative medal. The work will be reflective of Indiana's 200 years of history, with the State Seal represented on the reverse of the medal. The winning artist will receive a $5,000 cash award for their design. The winning design, including copyright, becomes property of the State of Indiana. The artist must agree to provide any follow-up medal design needs to assure the highest quality minted medal possible.
Eligibility: Applicants must be permanent, legal residents of Indiana, age 18 years or older. No more than one application per applicant will be accepted. Applicants must be willing to work with the committee should changes to the drawing be requested, and must be willing to meet project deadlines. Artists may submit up to three designs with their application. Submitted designs must be original work, must not be copied from others, and must not contain third-party materials without permission. Designs must not include the artist name or initials, as selection is a blind jury process.
Artwork Requirements: Designs must be reflective of Indiana's 200 years of history. Images must be in electronic JPEG format, no greater than 5 MB, with a minimum of 1920 pixels on the longest side, and must maintain resolution clarity at 6" diameter. The final product will be a medal, 3/8" – 2.5" width. Submitted work should be line art, black and white (computer-based or hand-drawn and scanned/photographed), as the final product does not allow for gradations in artwork. The selection committee will evaluate submissions based on artistic merit, historical content, and appropriateness for a broad audience. Only one design will be selected for the commemorative medal. All decisions of the committee are final. For questions, contact Paige Sharp at [email protected] or 317-232-1279.
