In the Round: 1st Biennial Outdoor Sculpture Competition

UNC Asheville announces a national call for entries for In the Round: 1st Biennial Outdoor Sculpture Competition. Seven works will be selected by juror Hoss Haley and displayed on concrete exhibition pads surrounding Owen Hall, the newly renovated home to Art, Art History and New Media, for two years within the UNC Asheville campus. An opening reception and juror's walk will be held on October 6th, 2022.

A total of $2,000 in cash prizes will be awarded by the juror, and a $1,000 stipend will be provided to each accepted artist to offset shipping and travel. Artwork will be insured while on campus for the duration of the exhibition; artists are responsible for insurance in transit. Assistance with installation will be available through UNC Asheville staff equipment (front loader, trackhoe, backhoe). Any additional equipment needs, such as crane assistance, are the artist's responsibility. The exhibition runs from October 2022 through September 2024.

Eligibility: Open to artists 18 years or older currently residing in the United States. Work must be able to withstand adverse weather conditions and public interaction, not exceed a 10' x 10' footprint or weigh more than 3,000 lbs, be securable to a concrete pad, safe for diverse audiences, and maintenance-free for the exhibition duration. Models and proposals for uncompleted work are not accepted. Entry fee: $40 for one entry, $5 for each additional entry (up to 3 total). Submit 1-3 images and up to 1 video (4 samples maximum) through the CaFÉ online system. Notifications will be sent August 1, 2022. Installation dates are late September/early October 2022. Artists unable to meet installation and deinstallation dates are not eligible and may forfeit the stipend. Sales are encouraged with a 30% commission retained by UNC Asheville from the retail price.
