In The Fields: Botanical Lore

In The Fields: Botanical Lore is a call for entries for artists working in all media to share botanical expressions and depictions. The history of art shows that artists and plants are a natural pairing, with artists creating botanical lore for centuries, inspired by the forms, colors, myths, metaphors, science, and symbolism of plants.

All media will be considered: painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, book art, video, sound art, and installation. Size limitations: wall work no larger than 36" in either dimension; sculptural work no taller than 6 feet, 30 pounds weight, or a 36" footprint. Entries must be submitted through CaFE with 1-6 images, up to 1 audio file, and up to 1 video file (8 total samples maximum). Maximum file size for each still image is 5 MB. An optional artist statement may be provided and will be seen by the juror but not the gallery.

Entry fee is $45 ($35 for current Arts Benicia members) and includes submission of up to 3 artworks. Deadline for entries is September 15. Artists will be notified on or before October 1. The exhibition runs November 10 through December 21, with a member preview on November 8 and public reception on November 10. Hand-delivered work is received October 25-27 (11 AM-2 PM); shipped work must arrive by October 27. Pick up of unsold work is January 10-12, 2019 (11 AM-2 PM). Artists receive 60% on sales; Arts Benicia receives 40%. Artworks will be covered by Arts Benicia Insurance while at the gallery. The juror is artist and curator Jennifer Perlmutter.
