In Sequence: The Art of Comics

In Sequence: The Art of Comics is an international juried exhibition opening in conjunction with animation and cartoon-themed exhibits and programs at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center and the Buell Children's Museum. The exhibition will run from June 10 through September 9, 2018, with a public opening on June 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

The exhibition is open to all artists and seeks original artwork and concepts. For each entry (up to 3 per artist), submit one to five consecutive pages that are fully inked and lettered. Color is optional. A concept statement of 500 words or less in English is required. Between 20 and 30 artists' works will be selected for the exhibit. The entry fee is $20 and includes up to three entries. All images must be submitted in digital form with a resolution of at least 300 dpi as a .pdf, .tiff, or .jpg file. Work will be printed on 180# white matte photo paper at 9" x 12" per page. Do not submit work that utilizes existing characters, extreme portrayals of violence, nudity, or gore.

The juror is Dave McKean, an acclaimed English illustrator, writer, photographer, filmmaker, and musician known for his work with authors including Neil Gaiman, Ray Bradbury, and Stephen King. Awards include Best of Show (100 copies of winning entry on Photo Rag 188# paper at 12"x16" per page), 1st Prize (50 copies), and 2nd Prize (25 copies). Accepted work must remain on exhibit through September 7, 2018. Artists retain copyright to submitted work and grant the Sangre de Cristo Arts & Conference Center the right to use images in promotional materials with full artist credit. Notification of acceptance will be sent via email on May 25, 2018. High-resolution images and a completed exhibition agreement are due June 4, 2018.
