In My Absence: an Exhibition of Portraits

In My Absence is an exhibition devoted to portraits. Artists have created self portraits for centuries—in part to ensure presence in their absence. Often portraits convey the impression the artist believes, hopes or fears they leave on those around them. It may convey something unspoken, or simply be a visual feast for beauty's sake. It may hint at something as did the Mona Lisa. Whether submitting a self portrait or portraying another, uBe Art wants to see something revealed, or at least a hint at what lies beneath.

Accepted mediums include painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, mixed media and digital art. All artwork must be ready to hang; loose prints must be in plastic sleeves. Artwork must not exceed 50" on any side. The entry fee is $25. Artists are responsible for round-trip shipping and insurance during shipping. International artists are responsible for paying all international fees. Artists may deliver and pick up work in person if applicable.

Artwork selected for this show will be on display in a seven-week exhibition at uBe Art in Berkeley, California, located 12 miles east of San Francisco. The gallery features 25 ft ceilings and attracts artists, visitors and collectors from around the Bay Area. The jury panel will choose individual pieces based on technical application, originality and concept. The panel includes professional working artists, gallery curators, advertising agents, and editors representing diverse mediums. uBe Art will retain 40% of all sales. All artwork accepted must be listed for sale. Exhibition opens May 5th, 2016 with an opening reception on May 6th from 6pm-10pm. The exhibition closes June 26th, 2016. Selected artists will be notified via email on April 11th, 2016. All artwork must be received by April 29th, 2016.
