About This Call
Crooked Tree Arts Center - Petoskey is accepting submissions for the juried art exhibition In Motion: Making Art Dance, juried by Peter Sparling, former principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, painter and videographer. The exhibition will run from May 22 to September 5, 2026, in the Gilbert Gallery at Crooked Tree Arts Center in Petoskey, Michigan. This exhibition is part of a celebration of the Martha Graham Dance Company's 100th anniversary and will occupy a gallery alongside a significant collection of photographs by Barbara Morgan on loan from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Artists residing in the Great Lakes Region (Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and the Canadian province of Ontario) who are at least 18 years old are invited to submit up to 3 original works in any visual medium, including 2-D, 3-D, or video. Video works must be under 3 minutes in duration. Submissions may relate to the theme broadly and in many ways. The entry fee is $30.00. Three cash prizes will be awarded: First Place $500, Second Place $300, and Third Place $200.
Submissions must be made online via CaFÉ by March 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. Image files must be JPEG or JPG format, 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side, under 5 MB, and in RGB color profile. Applicants must include a narrative statement describing how their work relates to the theme. Jury dates are March 31 to April 6, 2026, with notification of results sent by email on April 8. Delivery of works is May 5-9, 2026. Artists are responsible for return shipping. The exhibition is open to the public Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
