About This Call
In Cahoots Residency provides housing and studio space to both emerging and professional artists with a focus on artists books, letterpress, printmaking, writing and collaboration. While the studios specifically support printmakers, letterpress printers, book artists, and writers, applications in these mediums are given priority. The residency occasionally hosts artists working in other mediums such as painting, photography, and mixed media.
The residency hosts 3 to 5 artists at a time for sessions ranging from one to three weeks long. Residents are provided housing in 3 individual guest houses (with kitchens and full bathrooms) and 2 summer sleeping cottages (with a shared kitchen and full bathroom). Residents have 24-hour access to shared visual art studios or an individual writing studio. Residents do their own cooking. For those without a car, rides to grocery and supply stores and weekly group field trips are provided free of charge. Accepted artists pay a residency fee to attend; financial support is available to help defray this cost. Ten fully or partially funded residencies are available in each application round. Applicants not awarded a Supported Residency will automatically be considered for a Regular (full pay) residency.
Applications are accepted twice a year with deadlines on June 1 and October 1. The October 1, 2025 deadline is for residencies taking place from June to December 2026. The application period is August 18 - October 1, 2025, closing at 11:59pm Mountain Time. A $25 application fee is required. Visual artists must submit 8-10 images of artwork, resume/CV, answers to application questions, and 3 references. Writers must submit 1-3 writing samples (10 pages or less), resume/CV, answers to application questions, and 3 references. Applicants for Supported Residencies must also provide a description of financial need. You must be 18 or older and have prior experience in art and/or writing. Notification of acceptance/denial will be sent by December 3, 2025. If accepted, a $200 holding deposit is due within one month of acceptance to hold your dates. The residency fee is due 60 days before your residency start date. The deposit will be returned 30 days after the end of your residency stay, minus any damages. Artists with allergies should be aware the property has three resident cats.
