About This Call

In Cahoots Residency provides housing and studio space to both emerging and professional artists with a focus on artists books, letterpress, printmaking, writing and collaboration. While the studios specifically support printmakers, letterpress printers, book artists, and writers, applications in these mediums are given priority. The residency occasionally hosts artists working in other mediums such as painting, photography, and mixed media.

The residency hosts 3 to 5 artists at a time for sessions ranging from one to three weeks long. Residents are provided housing in 3 full guest houses (with kitchens and full bathrooms) and 2 summer sleeping cottages (with a shared kitchen and full bathroom). Residents have 24-hour access to shared visual art studios or individual writing studios and do their own cooking. For those without a car, rides to grocery and supply stores and weekly group field trips are provided free of charge. Accepted artists pay a residency fee to attend; prices are available on the organization's website. Grants are available to help defray costs, with ten full and partial grant awards available in each application round. Applicants not awarded grants are automatically considered for regular (non-grant) residency.

Applicants must be 18 years or older with prior experience in art and/or writing. Visual artists must submit 8-10 images of artwork, a resume/CV, and answers to application questions. Writers must submit 1-3 writing samples (10 pages or less total), a resume/CV, and answers to application questions. Grant applicants must also provide 3 references and a description of financial need. The application fee is $25. If accepted, a $200 holding deposit is due within one month of acceptance to hold residency dates. The residency fee is due 60 days before the residency start date. Spouses and dogs may attend regular sessions with prior approval and additional fees ($150/week for spouses, $100 cleaning fee per session for dogs). Notification of acceptance or denial will be sent by December 2, 2024.
