About This Call
In Cahoots Residency provides housing and studio space to emerging and professional artists with a focus on artists books, letterpress, printmaking, writing, and collaboration. While the residency occasionally hosts artists working in painting, photography, and mixed media, applications in printmaking, letterpress, book arts, and writing are given priority.
The residency hosts 3 to 5 artists at a time for sessions ranging from one to three weeks. Residents are provided housing in 3 full guest houses (with kitchens and full bathrooms) and 2 summer sleeping cottages (with shared kitchen and full bathroom). Residents have 24-hour access to shared visual art studios or individual writing studios and do their own cooking. For those without a car, free rides to grocery and supply stores and weekly group field trips are provided.
Accepted artists pay a residency fee. Financial support is available through Supported Residencies, with ten fully or partially funded residencies available each application round. Applicants not awarded a Supported Residency are automatically considered for a Regular (full-pay) residency. A fully Supported Residency covers the entire residency fee; a partially Supported Residency covers part of the fee. Travel, materials, and food are not covered. Special consideration is given to emerging artists with less than 10 years of experience, artists of color, recent students, those returning to art after another career, and adjunct teachers.
Eligibility: Must be 18 or older with prior experience in art and/or writing. Visual artists must submit 8-10 images of artwork; writers must submit 1-3 writing samples (10 pages or less). All applicants must submit a resume/CV and answers to application questions. Applicants for Supported Residencies must also provide 3 references and a description of financial need. The application fee is $25. If accepted, a $200 holding deposit is due within one month of acceptance. The residency fee is due 60 days before the residency start date. Spouses and dogs may attend with prior approval (additional fees apply). Children cannot be accommodated at this time. Applications are accepted twice yearly with deadlines on June 2 and October 1. Notification of acceptance/denial will be sent by August 4, 2025.
