About This Call

In Cahoots Residency provides housing and studio space to emerging and professional artists with a focus on artists books, letterpress, printmaking, writing, and collaboration. While the residency occasionally hosts artists working in painting, photography, and mixed media, applications in printmaking, letterpress, book arts, and writing are given priority. The residency hosts 3 to 5 artists at a time for sessions ranging from one to three weeks long. Residents are provided private guest houses with kitchens and full bathrooms, and 24-hour access to shared visual art studios or individual writing studios. Residents do their own cooking. For those without a car, rides to grocery and supply stores and weekly group field trips are provided free of charge.

Accepted artists pay a residency fee to attend. Grants are available, with ten full and partial grant awards offered in each application round. The full grant covers the entire residency fee but does not cover travel, materials, or food. Applicants not awarded grants are automatically considered for regular (non-grant) residency. A $25 application fee is required. Notification of acceptance or denial will be sent 8 weeks after the deadline. If accepted, a $200 holding deposit is due within one month of acceptance to secure your dates. The residency fee is due 60 days before your start date.

Applicants must be 18 years or older and have prior experience in art and/or writing. Visual artists must submit 8-10 images of artwork, a resume/CV, and answers to application questions. Writers must submit 1-3 writing samples (10 pages or less total), a resume/CV, and answers to application questions. Grant applicants must also provide 3 references and a description of financial need. Spouses and dogs may attend with approval (additional fees apply). The residency welcomes adult artists of all ethnicities, religions, ages, physical abilities, gender, sexual orientation, financial status, and educational backgrounds.
