IMC 2017 Juried Exhibition: Beauty of Mokuhanga

The International Mokuhanga Conference 2017 Hawaii Local Committee invites entries for the International Juried Exhibition "Beauty of Mokuhanga: Discipline & Sensibility," which will include a mokuhanga print section and a hand printed artists' book section. This is the central exhibition of the Third International Mokuhanga Conference, held for the first time outside Japan in Hawaii in 2017. The exhibition celebrates the tradition of mokuhanga and is designed to bridge times, places, generations and disciplines while promoting innovative use of this traditional technique.

The exhibition will be held at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Dept. of Arts & Art History/Art Building Gallery, 2535 McCarthy Mall, Honolulu, HI 96822 from August 21 - October 1, 2017. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 10:00am-4:00pm and Sunday 12:00pm-4:00pm. A public closing reception will be held October 1 from 3:00-5:00pm. Submissions are accepted March 1-31, 2017, with notification of acceptance on May 1, 2017.

Open to all artists 18 years or older. Work must include elements of mokuhanga, Japanese water-based woodcut technique. Submissions are limited to up to two works, all original and created within the past two years. Print size must not exceed 48 x 48 inches; artists' books must not exceed 18 inches on the longest side. Entry fee is $50.00. Submit 1-2 JPEG images (2MB maximum) with artist name, title, year completed, printing method, size, retail price, and artist statement (maximum 150 words).
