About This Call
This exhibition invites artists to respond to contemporary cultural issues through their work. The call asks: How do artists respond to their cultural condition? Throughout history, artists have engaged with the status quo—from Dadaists rebelling against fascism, to Soviet Social Realists, to the Feminist Art Movement, to artists responding to the AIDS crisis. Today, artists are making work in response to environmental concerns, the refugee crisis, political shifts, and ongoing struggles for equality.
The award is a 3-person exhibition to be held in March 2019. Eligibility is limited to artists 18 years of age or older residing in California. Original work must be completed within the last two years. Accepted media include paintings, mixed media, sculpture, photography, and original prints. Video, installation, jewelry, and functional ware are not eligible. Maximum dimensions for a single work cannot exceed 60" and must be suitably framed or wired for installation. Sculptures may not weigh more than 100 lbs. Entry fee is $35.00. Applicants must submit 3-6 images of their work.
Selected works must be hand-delivered in excellent condition and ready for installation on Monday, February 25, 2019 by 5:00 pm. Accepted work may not be removed during the exhibition. Artists must pick up unsold work by 4:00 pm Sunday, March 31, 2019. Partners Gallery will exhibit selected artists' work on their website and publicize the show with email announcements, printed exhibition cards, and press releases.
