About This Call

Light is the fundamental essence of vision, a metaphorical beacon of knowledge, and a catalyst for emotional responses. Artists are encouraged to delve into the diverse dimensions of light, whether through the use of color, luminosity, shadow, reflection, refraction, or other innovative techniques that redefine its artistic expression. The exhibition invites exploration of the interplay between light and darkness, the duality of its existence, and its power to shape perceptions and narratives.

All mediums including painting, drawing, video, digital, film, projection, photography, sculptural and experiential work are encouraged. Work accepted into SebArts exhibitions are traditionally displayed in the gallery. For this exhibition, SebArts is also seeking art-based pieces that can activate the visually immersive location in intriguing ways, taking advantage of exterior and lobby space. These could include experimental animations (traditional or digital), sensory-based experiential works, intellectual provocations, and experimental art narratives.

Eligibility is open to artists worldwide. Maximum of 3 pieces per artist. Wall-hung work may not exceed 8 feet height by 5 feet width. All work must be original and not previously shown in the SebArts Gallery. Entry fees are $25 for members and $35 for non-members, plus a $2 media fee. Work samples may include up to 3 images, 1 audio file, and 2 videos (minimum 1 total sample required). Images must be 5MB or less in JPEG format. Video submissions should be limited to 1:30 minutes of documentation or a 2-minute excerpt with a link to the full piece. For site-based, installation, or tech-based pieces, include equipment needs and specifications. If work is created with artificial intelligence software, this must be noted in the materials list or description. Artists will be notified of acceptance by November 27. Accepted pieces must be shipped or hand-delivered by December 4. The exhibition runs January 6 - February 4, 2024. Awards: 1st place $500, 2nd place $300, 3rd place $100, and two $50 Coordinators awards. Juror: Georgie Friedman, a video and video installation artist based in Boston known for experiential, site-specific, and sculptural video and sound installations.
