About This Call
The International Visual Literacy Association (IVLA) invites submissions for an online/virtual exhibition in conjunction with the 2024 IVLA conference "Illuminating Perspectives." Artists are encouraged to submit visual work that examines personal and collective meaning-making, agentive practice, and the transformation of sociopolitical realities. Work can enhance, expand, or explore perspectives in studio, professional, and educational spaces.
Two and three dimensional work, teaching and instructional materials, professional and research visualizations, and exploratory visual work are welcome. Applicants must self-select from four exhibition categories: Studio Practice (visually based projects in 2d or 3d), Professional Practice (client-based or contractual work, non-education), Teaching/Research Practice (instructional and teaching activity, K-12/higher education, or instructional projects for specific fields/industries), and Exploratory Practice (exploratory, experimental, or cross-disciplinary visual projects). Collaborative and group-based work is permitted as long as all members are listed in the submission.
Entry fees are $25.00 for non-IVLA members and $15.00 for IVLA members. Submissions must include 1-6 images in high-quality JPEG format (300 dpi, no greater than 1600 px on the longest side, file size not exceeding 3 mb). Work must have been created in the past 3 years. Video and audio files will not be considered; time-based work should be submitted as 4-6 screen captures, stills, or storyboards. Use of AI tools must be disclosed and cited with description of the prompt, AI tool, version, date created, and site name. Applicants must provide name, location, title, institutional affiliation (if applicable), website/social media handle, work title, medium, category, and a 150-word project description. Additional information required for professional/teaching/research categories includes institution name and location, publication details, client information, and collaborator names and titles. The entry deadline is September 1, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. International submissions are eligible.
