About This Call
Local and national composers and musical artists are invited to submit qualifications for Inglewood Growing Artists' Performed Projects (IGAPP) to create and perform an original musical composition for the City of Inglewood. A contemporary composer or lyricist/instrumentalist, individual or team, will create an auditory celebration of Inglewood appropriate for civic celebrations and municipal events for audiences of all ages to debut in conjunction with a City celebration in late 2019 or early 2020.
The selection process begins with professional composers submitting qualifications for review by a panel comprised of five arts professionals and community representatives. Three semi-finalists will be selected and each paid $1,000 to create an audio sketch, lyrics, or musical theme of up to two minutes in length. One finalist will be offered a creative services contract for $12,000 to complete the composition and produce the world premiere at an Inglewood municipal event. The complete project must include a final report, documentation with a digital recording, video or still images of the world debut performance, and final accounting of project expenses.
IGAPP is a public art commission program to support artists and expose Inglewood citizens to contemporary art practices. The selected composer/musician will work with Public Art staff throughout contracting and performance phases. The artist will retain composition copyright while the City retains the right to use the recording at civic events and on City webpages at no cost. The recorded performance will not be for commercial sale. The selected artist must obtain a City of Inglewood Business Tax Certificate and provide proof of General Liability Insurance, Auto Insurance, and Workers Compensation in accordance with California law, endorsing the City as an Additional Insured.
