About This Call
Call to Artists for ID:EALS (Information and Democracy: Education, Access, Libraries, and Society), hosted by the Institute for Information Literacy at Purdue and sponsored by the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance and the Libraries and School of Information Studies. Submissions are invited that examine and/or critique information challenges occurring in the world today, such as mis/disinformation, fake news, cybersecurity, and information privacy. Successful submissions may explore: experiences of the misuse of information and how these experiences may differ or find commonality between communities; consequences of who does and does not have access to information and control over information, and what those dynamics say about power and equity; how information can pull us together or push us apart; and interactions between information, safety, and trust and how this shapes the way different groups move through the world.
This exhibition is open to U.S. artists. Artworks can be two or three dimensional. Applicants may submit up to two artworks created within the last five years. Submissions should include images of the artwork(s), an artist statement describing how the work explores and/or critiques an information challenge, and an artist biography. Jurying will be done blindly based solely on artwork images. The exhibition will take place in a pop-up gallery inside the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education Library at Purdue University from April 5-23, 2023. A symposium featuring research talks, panel discussions, and research awards will be held April 12-13, 2023.
Entry fee: $10.00. Submit 1-6 images. Entry deadline: January 27, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Jury deliberation completed by February 20, 2023. Artwork must arrive at Purdue University by March 22, 2023. Contact: [email protected].
