About This Call

ICONIC: Black Panther is a multi-city art exhibit celebrating the iconic role of the Black Panther party in American History over the past 50 years. The Los Angeles exhibition will be hosted at Gregorio Escalante Gallery and Zack De La Rocha Art Space, located at 978 Chung King Rd in Chinatown. The exhibit will feature primarily local artists along with internationally renowned artists and original art from founding Black Panthers.

A diverse group of artists will be accepted into the exhibit and encouraged to explore their own insights into the Black Panther Party and current societal challenges, be they racial, cultural, class, or gender based. Accepted media includes painting, drawing, mixed media, photography, and original prints. Each artist will have approximately 2.5' x 3.5' of vertical wall space; larger works must be cleared by the curators. Entry fee is $15.00 for three slides, with $5.00 per additional slide (4 slides maximum). Eligibility is open to artists in Los Angeles and surrounding counties, with priority given to artists within county limits. However, artists from surrounding states are considered if their perspective contributes to the diversity of the show. Artists are responsible for pickup and delivery of their work.

Load-in is March 27, 2017 (2pm-6pm). Press preview is April 5, 2017. Opening is April 8, 2017, with closing on May 14, 2017. Notification of accepted artists will be sent by February 16. Each accepted artist will be featured in a fully illustrated catalogue and must provide a professional scan of completed work (300 dpi) by a TBD deadline. All sales will be handled through SEPIA in partnership with Road to Artdom. Artists retain 50% of sales; the remaining 50% covers gallery commission, production expenses, and support for Panthers in need and their families. All pieces must remain up for the duration of the exhibition. Road to Artdom will send checks to artists within 15 business days at the end of the exhibition.
