I WANT YOU TO SEE ME

I WANT YOU TO SEE ME is a curated exhibition for art about the queer experience by LGBTQIA2+ artists residing in Oregon. Through this exhibition, UVA wishes to give a platform for queer artists to share their artistic practice and experiences. There is no specific theme within the exhibition, except to showcase works that pay homage to the kind of joy, grief, creativity, tragedy, and celebrations that are unique to the queer experience. The goal is to create dialog and conversations recognizing LGBTQIA2+ identities, ideologies, expressions, and politics.

Artworks will be selected by curator June T. Sanders, an artist, writer, educator, and curator located in rural South-East Washington State. Sanders has been awarded the Oregon Center for the Photographic Arts curatorial prize, a Research Fellowship from the New Hampshire Institute of Art, and the Western Communities Photo Grant from High Country News. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Washington State University.

Eligibility is open to all established, mid-career, and emerging artists who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and/or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, Two-Spirit, and any other affirmative ways in which people choose to self-identify (LGBTQIA2+) across Oregon. UVA is open to all media and modes of making. Entry fee is $25.00. Submissions must include 1-5 digital work samples (images, audio, or video files). Images must be JPEG format, minimum 1920 pixels on the longest side, 72 ppi/dpi resolution, and up to 5 MB maximum file size. Submission deadline is April 29th at 11:59 PM Mountain Time (10:59 PM Pacific Time). Artists will be notified May 7th. Art delivery to UVA is June 4th-7th and June 10th, 9am-6pm. Opening reception is Friday, June 14th, 4pm-7pm. Exhibit ends August 16th. Artwork pickup is August 19th, 9am-6pm. Artwork will be shipped from UVA no later than September 13th.
