About This Call
Hearts Need Art (HNA) is a non-profit organization located in San Antonio, Texas. Their mission is to create moments of joy, self-expression, and connection with those facing life-altering health challenges through arts engagement, advocacy, and innovation.
This juried competition invites artists to create visual, audio, or video pieces inspired by a poem written by cancer survivor Anthony Morales titled "I No Longer Fear Death, I Fear Not Living." The poem reflects on living a meaningful life without fear. Sculptures are not permitted. The exhibition opens on World Cancer Day, February 4, 2022, and runs through March 4, 2022, presented as an online gallery with a virtual Zoom reception on February 4th.
Entry fee is $30 for one entry, with $2 for each additional entry up to 4 pieces total. Artists may submit up to 4 work samples in any combination of images, audio, or video files. Digital entries must be received via the CaFÉ application by December 30, 2021, before 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time. Accepted artists will be notified by January 31, 2022. Awards include a Best in Show Prize of $200, First place in each category (Painting/Drawing, Mixed Media, Audio, Video) of $50, and Honorable Mention certificates. The juror is Christopher Rabb, a visual artist and educator based in San Antonio. No more than 2 works by any one artist will be included in the final selection. Nudity and foul language are prohibited. For questions, contact [email protected] with "ART SHOW 2021" in the subject line.
