Hygge: A Winter's Glow

Crooked Tree Arts Center presents Hygge: A Winter's Glow, an exhibition celebrating the Danish concept of hygge—the ritual of enjoying family, friends, warmth, and the simple pleasures of life.

Artists and crafters working in all media are encouraged to apply, including painters, weavers, composers, furniture makers, videographers, sculptors, potters, printmakers, knitters, woodworkers, graphic designers, photographers, and industrial designers. Works embodying or evoking the concept of hygge will be selected by a jury. Eligibility is open to all Michigan residents and/or members of Crooked Tree Arts Center who are 18 years or older. All submissions must be original work that has not been previously exhibited at Crooked Tree Arts Center. Submissions should embody or evoke the concept of hygge.

Entry fee is $30.00 per artist ($15.00 for current CTAC members with coupon code Hygge17). Artists working in physical media may submit up to 7 images; composers may submit up to 3 audio entries; videographers may submit up to 2 video entries (no longer than 10 minutes each). Work samples must total between 1 and 7 submissions. Online entries are accepted October 15, 2016 to November 28, 2016, with notification sent November 30, 2016. Accepted physical works may be delivered to CTAC-Traverse City or CTAC-Petoskey on specified dates through January 7, 2017. Accepted audio and video must be delivered by December 20, 2016. The exhibition opens with a reception Saturday, January 14, 2017, from 2-4pm and closes Saturday, February 25, 2017. Crooked Tree Arts Center retains a 40% commission on sales; artists receive 60% of the retail price. All accepted works must be for sale (except sound and video works, which may be sold as CDs or DVDs) and prepared for installation. Works not picked up by March 18, 2017 become the property of Crooked Tree Arts Center unless prior arrangements are made.
