About This Call
The San Francisco Redevelopment Agency is seeking submissions from qualified artists to create original public art for the Hunters Point Shipyard as part of a Cultural Historic Recognition Program celebrating the Bayview Hunters Point and Shipyard communities.
This two-phased selection process begins with a Qualification Phase to establish a pre-qualified pool of artists. Selected finalists will be invited to develop concept proposals in the Proposal Phase and will receive a modest honorarium for proposal development. An Artist Selection Jury will select award candidates from the finalists to create public art for the Shipyard. The Agency will present the Jury's recommendation to the Agency Commission for confirmation and authorization to enter into artist contracts.
Eligibility is open to practicing and emerging artists and artist teams in the United States. Public art commissions are estimated between $10,000 and $500,000 per commission, with the Agency considering alternative proposal budgets from collaborative teams. Proposed art must be tangible and non-expandable, with the ability to be moved or relocated without changing design. Earthforms, plantings, landscaping, paint applied to structures, and art dependent on specific locations are not allowed. Public art commissions are funded with a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration, which must be spent by August 15, 2010. Submissions require 10 images and must be submitted through CaFE at www.CallforEntry.org.
