DISTRICT Arts, a contemporary art gallery located in the historic district of downtown Frederick, MD, presents "Humor," a themed exhibition about the undisguised use of humor in modern contemporary art. The exhibition seeks work that is not subtle—in your face, laugh out loud. Humor can take many forms: satire, caricature, the absurd, or irony. It can be utterly ridiculous. DISTRICT Arts is interested in showcasing work that makes viewers smile, chuckle, and even belly-laugh. This independently juried exhibition will present the work of 25 artists.

Artists may submit up to 3 original works created within the past three years. Entry fees are $25 for one entry, $30 for two entries, and $35 for three entries. A $5 media fee applies. Accepted artists will have only their highest scoring work in the show. 2D works may not exceed 60 inches in width or height, including frame. 3D works must fit a 12" square or 12" x 18" pedestal or be freestanding. All work must be visibly signed and priced for sale. Works previously exhibited in a juried or featured artist show at DISTRICT Arts are not eligible. Submissions must be made online with one JPEG image per piece (approximately 1900 pixels on the longest side, maximum 5 MB file size). The juror is Glen Kessler, an internationally collected and awarded artist and Founder and Director of The Compass Atelier in Rockville, MD.

Awards: Best in Show $500, Award of Merit $250, Honorable Mention $100. Entry deadline is August 27, 2023. Notifications are sent by email on September 11. Shipped work and hand-delivered work must arrive at DISTRICT Arts, 15 N Market St, Frederick, MD, 21701 between September 25 and October 2. Exhibition dates: October 4 - October 29, 2023. Opening Reception is October 7, 5-7 p.m., with awards announced at 6 p.m. This exhibition is open to residents of the United States only.
