Hui No`eau Visual Arts Center: Artistic Alchemy

Artistic Alchemy is a themed exhibition presented by Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center, curated by Ditmar Hoerl. The exhibition invites artists to explore and interpret alchemy, a centuries-old interdisciplinary practice that combined various sciences, philosophy, and spiritual quest as scholars sought to explore the true nature of nature and experimented with ways to change one substance into another.

Work must be no larger than 18 inches in any direction. All mediums and forms are accepted. Entrants must be 18 years old or older. Works must be original, created independently without supervision within the past two years. Work shown previously in a juried exhibition on Maui is not eligible. Artworks in any medium or combination of media are eligible; however, the Hui reserves the right to reject works due to toxic or dangerous materials. Artwork must be ready for hanging or installation, including attaching wire for framed pieces. Matted work without frames will not be accepted. Artists will be asked to assist in installing their work if it presents special hanging or installation requirements. For collaborative pieces, all artists must be listed on label information. Installation submissions are welcome; if selected, artists must submit a detailed sketch of the installation with a list of materials, dimensions, and statement of intention, and must be present to install work.

Artists may submit up to 3 entries. Entry fee is $10.00 per entry for members and $20.00 per entry for non-members. Due to space limitations, the exhibition will typically consist of no more than 60 works. Extreme care will be taken in handling and display of all work; however, Hui No'eau is not responsible for loss or damage of artwork and/or framing. All accepted artwork must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition. The Hui encourages artwork to be for sale during the exhibition; if artwork sells, the commission is 50% for the artist and 50% for the Hui. Off-island entrants are responsible for shipping artwork to and from Hui No'eau. Online submissions are accepted through www.callforentry.org. Artwork selected from online entries must be shipped to arrive on or before October 2nd. Exhibition dates: October 10 – November 8, 2008.
