About This Call
HUB-BUB is an artist-in-residence program hosted by the Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg, SC designed to provide time and space for emerging artists to live free and create. Two residencies will be offered to studio artists for 11 months, from September 2018 to July 2019. Artists-in-Residence will receive a monthly stipend of $850 (paid on the 5th of each month), an unfurnished apartment in downtown Spartanburg with all utilities and internet included, and studio space at the Chapman Cultural Center.
The studio is approximately 300 square feet of shared space attached to the HUB-BUB offices. Studio access is available 8:00 AM–9:00 PM Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–9:00 PM Saturday, and 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Sunday. Due to space limitations and the public nature of the program, specialty equipment and hazardous materials are prohibited. Artists must provide their own wireless router.
Resident artists are expected to hold regularly scheduled open studio hours for 15 hours each week and commit 15–25 hours weekly to community engagement activities, including attending Chapman Cultural Center and community events, participating in monthly art walks and festivals, and occasionally conducting workshops or giving talks. To be eligible, applicants must have received or be scheduled to receive a BFA or MFA in studio art within the last 5 years. Housing cannot accommodate partners, pets, or children. Entry fee is $45.00. Submit 1–20 images of your work.
