About This Call
Houston Arts Alliance Civic Art Program and Houston Airport System are seeking a visionary artist or artist team to create a cultural gateway or landmark artwork at William P. Hobby Airport. The commission is open to practicing, professional artists residing in Texas and Texas-adjacent states (Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Louisiana). Works should be highly durable and require minimal maintenance, with high aesthetic merit and demonstrated ability to execute large-scale work unique to Houston being major considerations.
The total project budget is $440,000, including design fee, engineering, site preparation, concrete pads, insurance, transportation, travel, materials, and studio administration. The selected artist or artist team will be contracted by January 31, 2009, with groundbreaking anticipated in September 2009 and project completion by December 2009. Purchase of an existing work with artist involvement for siting and lighting will be considered.
Applications are submitted through CaFE (www.callforentry.org) with no charge to artists. Applicants must submit 10 images.
