HOOKED: An Exploration of Addiction

From drugs and drinking to doomscrolling and dropping $50 on yet another vintage cookie jar, addiction takes many forms—some obvious, some quietly normalized. This is the theme for Magpie’s March exhibition. Addiction will examine how our particular dopamine boosters take hold—when a hobby becomes an obsession, when a coping mechanism becomes a trap, when something that once soothed or excited us begins to quietly drain our attention, time, energy, money, or sense of self. Personal, political, humorous, tender, unsettling, and unresolved perspectives are encouraged.
