About This Call
Hood River BIG ART Sculpture Walk is a public art program in its second year, consisting of up to 24 sculptures on loan from artists around the country. Selected sculptures will be installed in the downtown Hood River area for approximately one year, running from the end of August to the beginning of June.
Artwork must be a minimum of 48 inches tall and designed for long-term outdoor durability and ease of maintenance, including strong wind resistance. Sculptures taller than 11 feet require a certified engineer's stamp of approval. Works requiring multiple footings or multiple pieces such as triptychs are also considered. Selected artists will receive a $500 honorarium upon receipt of artwork. Awards will be given at the end of the season: $1,000 for best in show, $700 for second place, and $350 for third place. Artwork will be professionally photographed and featured in 20,000 Walking Tour Maps distributed throughout the Pacific Northwest. Pieces will be offered for sale with Art of Community receiving a 20% commission.
Submissions must include two or more digital images taken from front and back viewpoints in JPG format (150 dpi minimum, 5x7 minimum size), titled with artist's last name, artwork name, and dimensions. A completed loan contract must also be submitted. Artists may submit 1 to 3 works for consideration. The project is open to all artists regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, marital status, or physical or mental disability. Artist teams are eligible. No fragile works will be accepted. Email submissions to [email protected] with "BIG ART 2015" in the subject line.
