About This Call
The Angelico Project, in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, is seeking images suitable for reproducing as a set of Holy Cards for the celebration of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati's Bicentennial. Holy Cards are small pieces of sacred art, images that lead to prayer and contemplation. Artwork should be produced by artists in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and Greater Cincinnati Region, and should evidence elements of Goodness, Truth and Beauty; witness to the dignity of the human person; and attest to the reality of the spiritual life. Artwork may be made in any medium that can be reduced and reproduced to 2.5 by 4.5 inches. The Pilgrimage Prayer will appear on the verso of the card.
Two categories are offered: Adult and Student (High School and Elementary). Visual arts media are welcome, including painting, pastels, photography, sculpture, print-making, watercolor, graphic art, glass, and fibre arts. All images submitted must be in a format to be reproduced at Holy Card size. Work must have been created within the last 3 years. Maximum three entries per artist; entrance fee is $10 for up to three entries. Entries are digital and must be submitted online at CaFÉ (CallforEntry.org). Checks may be mailed to The Angelico Project, PO Box 18092, Cincinnati, OH 45218 and must be received by March 19, 2021.
Twelve images will be chosen overall. Winners will have their artwork printed on the holy cards with attribution. The top 100 submissions will be shown in a Virtual Art Show at The Angelico Project website. Holy Cards will be distributed during the Bicentennial Marian Pilgrimage May 16-June 19, 2021. The focus of the jurying process will be on excellence in concept, technique, and expression. Adult Category winners will be selected by Father Jan Schmidt, pastor of Cincinnati's Cathedral Basilica. Student Category submissions will be juried by a separate jury of educators.
