About This Call
The City of Wylie is seeking professional artists to create an entrance sculpture for the Municipal Walking Trails, located in the Texas Blackland Prairie region. The walking trails are expansive and currently encompass three miles, with plans to extend into additional areas and add a dog park and splash park for children. The proposed entry piece will be placed behind City Hall.
This is a multi-year public art project with sculptures scattered throughout the trails. Themes include creativity, resilience, hope and remembrance through sculptures of the Native American Tribes that hunted the area; animals that have existed in the area; and the beautiful prairie grasses and plants that were native to the region. The initial entrance piece should reflect a synopsis of the history visitors will see throughout their walk.
Applicants must submit a letter of interest describing their approach and how their professional background relates to the project; a current resume (maximum 3,000 characters, or 4,000 characters total for team submissions); images of previous relevant work within the same budget and final cost (maximum 15 images as .jpg files); an annotated image list including image number, title, medium, dimensions, date, budget, location, commissioning agency, and brief description; and three professional references with phone and email contact information. The project budget is $85,000. Applicants must be professional artists age 18 and over located in the continental U.S.A. City of Wylie employees and selection panelists and their immediate family members are not eligible.
