Historic Barton Cemetery Entryway Feature

The Recreation and Cultural Services Department at the City of Boynton Beach seeks to commission an artist and/or artist team to design an entryway feature for the Historic Barton Memorial Park Cemetery located in Boynton Beach, Florida. The Barton Memorial Park Cemetery, originally known as Cherry Hill, was the original burial ground in Boynton for the African-American community. The park was named "Barton Memorial Park" in honor of the Barton family. Mary Barton was instrumental in promoting improvements to the site, and her son, Alton, is buried in the cemetery.

This innovative art project is facilitated as part of a grant-funded initiative to provide permanent physical enhancements through a public art entryway feature. The selected artist or artist team will receive a $5,000 honorarium. This project is funded in part by a grant from the Mellon Foundation, South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Florida Division of Arts & Culture.

Eligibility: Florida artists and Palm Beach County artists are preferred. Applicants must have professional experience in creating or designing public art. Submissions should include 3–15 images of relevant work and an artist statement.
