Highways & Byways

Crooked Tree Arts Center in Traverse City invites Michigan artists to submit work for Highways & Byways, a juried exhibition exploring the roads we travel, both literal and metaphorical. Whether it's the well-worn highway or the winding, lesser-known path, artists are invited to submit work that reflects their personal interpretation of highways and byways. The theme invites exploration, reflection, and storytelling across all visual art forms.

Eligibility: Open to Michigan artists 18 years and older working in all styles and media. Works must have been created and completed within the last three years. All work must arrive assembled and stable for safety. Size limits: 60 inches at greatest dimension and up to 50 pounds (contact for exceptions). Diptychs and triptychs are allowed but submitted and priced as one piece. Submit up to three works online between June 26 - August 7, 2025. Entry fee: $30.00 per artist ($20.00 for CTAC members, free for Guild members). Notification will be sent August 15, 2025.

The exhibition will be displayed in Traverse City's Carnegie Galleries from September 9 - October 25, 2025. Work must be delivered between August 23 - August 29, 2025 (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, Saturday 10am-4pm). Artists are responsible for transportation via shipping or in-person delivery. Shipped work must include a return shipping label. Crooked Tree Arts Center is a sales gallery retaining a 40% commission on all sales. Works do not have to be for sale. Unsold artwork must be picked up between October 27 - November 1, 2025, or becomes property of the gallery.
